The IDE Working Group has completed an initial requirements document for an Ajax library metadata standard. This metadata standard will document JavaScript APIs and UI controls contained within a given Ajax library. The requirements document can be found on the OpenAjax wiki at /member/wiki/IDE/requirements. The metadata standard will enable an Ajax IDE to populate its widget palettes with icons, auto-generate property editor dialogs, and offer completion/code assist for JavaScript APIs. The working group includes participants who are associated with Adobe Dreamweaver, Aptana, Eclipse Ajax Toolkit Framework, Microsoft ASP.NET AJAX, Microsoft Visual Studio, Netbeans, Tibco and Zend.

The Working Group’s next step is to review existing metadata formats used in industry today in the hope that one of the existing formats will prove to be a good starting point from which to define the standard.
