Minutes

Doodle poll: no real consensus on changing our meeting time; will leave it as is.

Agenda 1: Update on OAA Cache Inspector and Ruleset Development

JG: Lots of changes for National Language Support (NLS)

JG: Also auto update is implemented for most sidebars (Headings/Landmarks still under development)

JG: Tables sidebar now has Rules information.

JG: Rules info is still under development.

JG: One of the main updates of the last week: we now have a WCAG 2.0 Ruleset; rulesets now know how to evaluate themselves.

NH: We're also working on reducing the number of evaluations needed; need a shared memory space for sidebars.

MJ: Will try out the Cache Inspector

JG: Compatible with Firefox 4.x to 10.x

JG: /member/wiki/WCAG_2.0_Principle_3_Understandable_Rules#Requirement_3.3.2_Labels_or_Instructions

Agenda 2: Rules for Labels and Instructions

JG: For each rule, we're now adding a purpose property explaining why it's important.

Ann: Does that link back to WCAG techniques?

JG: /member/wiki/WCAG_2.0_Principle_2_Operable_Rules#Requirement_2.4.1_Bypass_Blocks

JG: LANDMARK_1 rule is an example of rule that includes purpose.

JG: This rule purpose info can be displayed in tools and reports we provide.

JG: Everything will link back to WCAG and/or ARIA at some level. The purpose is meant to be top-level info re. why this is important.

JG: CONTROL 1 rule re. associated text label for form controls

JG: Purpose for CONTROL 1: Being able to identify the purpose of a form control

JG: For now, we will leave the rule addressing only the HTML 4 control types

JG: CONTROL 2: pretty straightforward

JG: CONTROL 3: Groups of radio buttons should be labeled with fieldset/legend

JG: Should this rule also include testing for aria-label and aria-labeledby

Ann: CONTROL 2: IBM requires alt and disallows title attribute

JG: Will change CONTROL 2 to require alt attribute (omit title attrib. from rule).

Ann: http://www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG20/quickref/#qr-minimize-error-cues

JG: Will start with 3.3.2 next week
