Sure, here goes:
Sys.Component.create(Sys.UI.DataView, null, null, null, document.getElementById("someDiv"));
returns the type Sys.UI.DataView.

Yeah, the Google Gears example is already in the spec for case 2. I'm looking to add a real-world example for case 1 and was hoping that you could provide one. Can you replace the example that's currently in the spec for case 1 or reply with an example via e-mail so I can insert it? Thanks!
